Agriculture

   Calling Puyan the "hometown of the vegetables" would be very appropriate. A beautiful "country symphony" of vegetable fields and dark-skinned peasants immersed in their work is on display as visitors drive by.
   Puyan is a major producer of glutinous rice. The milled long-grain glutinous rice is the kind that is harvested the most; its yield accounts for 27% of the total production in Taiwan. The round glutinous rice takes second place. Broccoli, leeks, spring onions and peas make up the main kinds of produce. Other important kinds include cucumbers, bitter gourds, squashes and water chestnuts.    In recent years, Jinxiang grapes have gradually been replaced by Jinfeng grapes. Since Puyan's climate and soil are perfect for growing red dragon fruit, this sweet and aromatic fruit has become one of the favorites in the fruit market.

Livestock Industry

   Although Puyan Township's economy is mainly based on agriculture, the livestock industry is also well developed. Pig and chicken raising has been a contributing factor to economic prosperity. Currently, there are 54 farm animal keepers, 34 poultry keepers, and 35 aquaculture farmers. The main kinds of livestock raised are pigs and chickens. The abundant production is sold in every corner of Taiwan. In addition, there are cattle, sheep, deer and rabbits breeders in the township and producers of related products. Although their numbers are not large, their businesses are thriving and breathe life into the township's recreational agriculture industry.

Business

   Among the farm villages here and there, processing factories are littered due to the diligence of residents in Puyan Township.
   Business is dominated by traditional shops to fulfill the needs of residents. Chief commercial district is on both sides of Changshuei Road, Yuanlu Road and Jhongcheng Road where shops swarm.
   So far as the industry is concerned, Acelon Chemicals Fiber Corporation and Fu-Hwa Mirror Co., Ltd. are the two biggest manufacturers in Puyan Township. Others are small-scale enterprises or family business responsible for producing parts and components of bikes, plywood, plastic processing or components OEM, and so on.
