Transportation

   The transportation network around the township provides convenient access to it. Main thoroughfares include:

• National Freeway: National Freeway No.1 (also known as SunYat-sen Freeway) passes through the villages of Nangang and Dalian.
  When the Puyan Interchange of Hanbao-Caotun East-West Expressway is completed, traffic to and from the township will be even more convenient.
• East-West Freeway: The Hanbao-Caotun East-West Expressway (Taiwan Provincial Highway 76) has a ramp in Puyan Township connecting to Taiwan Provincial Highway 19- Zhangshui Road. This is the most important artery connecting Puyan with the outside world. Through this expressway, it is easy and fast to reach Lugang, Yuanlin, Nantou or the Sun Yat-sen Freeway.
• Provincial Highway: Zhangshui Road (Taiwan Provincial Highway 19) enters Puyan Township from Changhua City, Xiushui Township and Fuxing Township and continues to Xihu Township. This road is the most important one in the town. With stores lined up along this road, it is the busiest and most prosperous area of the town.
• County Highway and Other Important Roads:
  From Yuanlin Township, Yuanlu Road passes through Xihu Township, enters Puyan and continues to Lugang Township. Fanjin Road passes through the western part of Puyan and continues to Xihu Township passing through Xinxing Village, Yongping Village, Yongle Village, Shibi Village, Tiansheng Village, Taiping Village and Sansheng Village. It is the most important road in western Puyan Township.

Improvements to Surfaces of Farm and Important Roads

   The Puyanbi agricultural land was zoned in 1965. Zhenping agricultural land was zoned in 1968. Dalianbi agricultural land was zoned in 1969. Yihe agricultural land was zoned in 1982. The zoning of these four agricultural lands led to the building of new farm roads and the straightening of some windy roads, making Puyan more easily accessible and its traffic smoother than any other township in Changhua County.
   Every year the town hall campaigns for improvement projects for its roads and waterways. Farm roads were widened from their original 2.5 meters to 5 or 6 meters in width and waterway dredging was completed to facilitate harvest of crops and delivery of agricultural products. The surfaces of important roads such as Zhangshui Road, Yuanlu Road, Chenggong Road, Xinsheng Road and Zhongshan Road have also been improved to protect the safety of the residents of Puyan.

Water Resources

      Puyan has abundant underground water resources. Water for irrigation is drawn from a system of mid to small canals composed of the Yuanlin Irrigation Canal, the Old Zhuoshui River, the Puyan Irrigation Canal in Xihu Township, the Beishiwei Irrigation Canal, the Datu Irrigation Canal, the Puyan Irrigation Canal, the Wayao Irrigation Canal and the Dongliao Irrigation Canal.
